Practical guides

Experience Chinese festivals by video with a local friend

A real-time conversation can make a festival feel more personal than watching a recording. Choose one tradition, ask questions and agree what the host can comfortably share from their own celebration.

Choose a festival and a small activity

For Mid-Autumn, a session might introduce mooncakes, tea or the host's family customs. For Chinese New Year, you might discuss decorations, practise greetings or watch a dish being prepared. These are possible formats, not guaranteed access to every celebration. Customs vary between families and places, so ask the host to explain their experience rather than present one household as all of China.

Prepare for time zones and participation

Decide whether you want to watch, speak, cook along or include your own family. Agree the language, platform, call length and a suitable date in both time zones. If cooking together, request ingredients and substitutions in advance and decide which steps you will do independently. A session can sometimes be arranged around the holiday rather than on the busiest day; confirm actual availability instead of assuming it.

Keep the live experience personal and considerate

Agree which rooms, people or outdoor places can appear on video. A family member joining a call should know what is being shared, and recording needs permission. For an outdoor stream, discuss signal quality, weather and a fallback indoor conversation. Useful follow-up might be the greeting you practised, an agreed recipe or a topic for another call, depending on the booked scope.

ILLUSTRATIVE REQUEST · NOT A CUSTOMER STORY

Example: mooncakes, tea and a few Chinese greetings

My family would like to learn about Mid-Autumn through a live call. Could a local friend show agreed mooncakes or tea, explain how they celebrate and teach us a few simple greetings? We would like to ask questions rather than watch a prepared lecture. Please confirm the date, language, host and any preparation costs. This is an illustrative plan, not a promised holiday event or past customer story.

What to confirm in the quote

Confirm whether the proposed session fits the agreed friend membership or needs an additional activity quote. Ingredients, supplies, outdoor travel and special preparation should be listed separately. The regular membership is US$50 per month; the US$25 monthly promotion runs through 31 December 2026, China time. Holiday sessions, frequency and length require direct agreement.
