Practical guides

Choose a Chinese conversation partner who fits your goals

Some people want relaxed conversation; others want a lesson plan and feedback. Decide what a useful session means to you before comparing memberships or arranging a first video call.

Choose conversation, lessons or a combination

For everyday conversation, bring a topic you enjoy: work routines, food, travel or life where you live. Say whether you prefer frequent corrections or an uninterrupted chat with notes afterwards. If you want a sequence of lessons, pronunciation work or exercises matched to a learning goal, request a separately planned one-to-one Chinese course. A friend membership does not imply that every structured lesson or activity is included.

Make the first call manageable

Share your approximate Chinese level, preferred communication language and topics you are comfortable discussing. Offer two possible time windows with your time zone, and agree a platform accessible to both sides. Confirm the call length, frequency and approach before joining. You might start with an introduction and one everyday topic, then decide whether a similar format is useful for later calls.

Look for useful progress and clear boundaries

After a conversation, a small list of phrases or a topic for next time may be more useful than a long generic lesson. Agree whether such notes are part of your arrangement. Ask permission before recording a call or sharing an image. Friendship-style conversation is a booked human service with agreed availability, rather than an expectation of unlimited access or immediate replies. Keep communication respectful and discuss changes directly.

ILLUSTRATIVE REQUEST · NOT A CUSTOMER STORY

Example: speaking practice around everyday food

I know basic Mandarin and want to feel more comfortable talking about food. Could we arrange a video conversation using simple Chinese, with help in an agreed shared language if I get stuck? I would like corrections after I finish a sentence and a few useful phrases to review. Please confirm the session length and available times. This is an illustrative learning request; a course plan would be quoted separately.

What to confirm in the quote

Chinese friend membership is normally US$50 per month, with a US$25 monthly promotion through 31 December 2026, China time. Confirm the actual frequency, duration, host and spoken languages before joining. Structured Chinese lessons are separately planned and quoted. Outings, ingredients or special activities may add agreed costs; do not assume unlimited calls or automatic inclusion.

Your first-message checklist

  • Conversation goal, Chinese level and preferred corrections.
  • Confirmed shared language, platform and time zone.
  • Agreed call duration, frequency and available person.
  • Membership scope, lesson quote and recording consent.
